Instructions for using the Cyberduck FTP client.
Server Account
You must have an account on the server before you can connect. If you don't already have one, your instructor will provide it.
-
For convenience, your csci account user name is the same as your main campus user name (username@lakeforest.edu).
-
This csci account is completely distinct from your campus email login and my.lakeforest login. The password for this account is only for your csci.lakeforest.edu server account.
Connecting to the Server

Steps to connect to the
csci.lakeforest.edu server using the CyberDuck FTP Client.
-
Start Cyberduck and choose Open Connection.
-
Choose SFTP (Secure FTP) from the menu.
-
Enter the Server, Username, and Password.
Server: csci.lakeforest.edu
Username: (see your account info)
Password: (see your account info)
There are many FTP apps available, some free and some cost money.
Any FTP client software that can make Secure SFTP Connections will work.
On your first connection, it may ask you to accept the
server fingerprint.
Select
Always Allow, since this is the server's encryption key for secure connections.
Once you are connected, you can create a bookmark to easily connect in the future.
Cyberduck may come with a few preset bookmarks, which is anoying, so you can delete those if you want.
NOTE only for Mac computers: When you installed cyberduck, if you didn't uncheck the box for also installing bonjour bookmarks you may be getting harmless (but annoying) notifications at the top right of your screen every time it detects public ftp servers. To turn off the notifications: System Preferences --> Notifications --> Cyberduck
